Jackfruit Bao

Jackfruit Bao

Soft Chinese bun filled with Jackfruit

Equipment

  • Pan
  • Oven

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five spice
  • 2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 tbsp hoisinsauce
  • 1 can young green jackfruit
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1/2 tbsp corn flour
  • Bao

Toppings

  • 2 spring onion
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • sweet-n-sour
  • sesame seeds
  • hoisin sauce
  • 1 red pepper
  • coriander

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the jackfruit and pull the pieces apart, make sure it's dry enough before adding to the pan
  • Add the corn flour to the jackfruit and mix it well
  • Put the sunflower oil in the pan and bake the diced onion
  • Add the jackfruit to the pan and let that bake with the onion
  • After a couple of minutes of baking add all the other dry ingredients to the pan: ginger, garlic and Chinese five spices
  • Add the brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce and soy sauce. Mix it well and let it bake for at least 5 minutes
  • Put a greaseproof paper to a baking tray and add the jackfruit mixture to that
  • Add salt and pepper to taste and also some extra hoisin sauce
  • Add the baking tray to the oven and bake in a 185 C degrees for about 20 minutes, toss the jackfruit halfway
  • Assemble the bao to your liking
