Gua Bao
The Classic Gua Bao, but 100% VEGAN (Part 2) | VeganAsian RecipesThe second way to make a Bao delicious, the classic Gua filling. Normally this is made with pork, but of course this version is made with plant-based ingredients only! Be sure to make the Basic Chickwheat before you start this recipe. This is also great with the Basic Sweet-n-Sour toppings.
Ingredients
- 150 gr chickwheat
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 pinch salt and pepper
- 1 tbsp ginger powder
- 2 tbsp agave syrup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tsp lemon grass powder

Instructions
- Add the oil to a hot pan and add the chickwheat to it
- Bake the chickwheat for about 2 minutes and add all the dry ingredient to the pan (ginger, brown sugar, lemon grass, salt and pepper)
- Add the soy sauce and agave syrup to the pan and mix it around
- Make sure everything is covered properly and bake it until most of the moisture is gone
- Bake it a bit further to get a sticky consistency and there is no moisture left
- Add the gua mixture to a steamed bun and add toppings to your liking
